Second Phase Teaching Practice at Govt. Boys High School, Kayamkulam.
Week - 2
- Day 4 - 19th November 2018
I reached the school campus at 9:30 am and after signing the register went to our allotted room. Some of the teachers including HM was absent due to school tour and because of that, we got the responsibility to look after the free periods. I had one class in 9th B division, where I took a class on refractive index. Three activities including one experiment, solving numericals and a discussion on related content was done in the class. Students reaction in the review session made me feel happy and satisfied. The class ended at 3:45 pm and we returned home after signing the register.
- Day 5 - 20th November 2018
Since it was Miladi Sharif, there had been no classes in school.
- Day 6 - 21st November 2018
As usual, we reached school at 9:30 am and signed the attendance register. I had two periods as per the timetable, but I got one extra hour in 9th division, So I completed one more lesson. Today I spent some time in the Chemistry laboratory to do experiments before the class. Lekshmi Sabu helped me to arrange the apparatus and chemicals needed. Vijitha's conscientization programme was conducted at 2:45 pm and I couldn't join them due to my class.
In 9.B. I took classes on total internal reflection and lens. Both the lessons contained 3 activities. In total internal reflection, a video presentation, chart presentation, and a discussion on related topic were carried out. Demonstration of different lenses and two experiments were conducted on the topic lens. Even though there had been some discipline problems, the activities were done within the time. I took 8th A students to the laboratory to take the lesson, the topic was Water- neutral solvent and universal solvent. With the experiment students idea on the topic became more concrete. I feel like I should involve more students in doing experiments. As usual in lunchtime, we served the food to the children. At 4:00pm we returned home after signing the register.
At 9:00 am I reached the school along with Lekshmi Sabu. After signing the register we prepared for the assembly. The assembly started with a prayer sung by Soorya P and Sreelekshmi U. Followed by Pledge, News, Thought of the day, Quote of the day, Quiz and introducing a book which were done by Lekshmi Sabu, me, Sarath S, Vijitha J Akhila, Soorya P respectively. The whole assembly was anchored by Vijitja J. The assembly was dispersed after national anthem at 10:00 am.
I observed Lekshmi Sabu's class on components of acids in 9th B. After taking permission from the concerned teacher to use the laboratory I prepared for the lesson to be taught in 8th A and took the students to the laboratory. The lesson was on the topic hard water and soft water which had three activities including 2 experiments and one discussion. The experiments helped the students to solve the third activity by applying and interconnecting. After lunch break, I took one lesson in 8th B (heat capacity, freezing point and surface tension) and returned home at 4:05pm.
As it was friday, the class started at 9:30am, I reached the school before that and signed the register. I didn't had any classes as per the timetable, but I was engaged in 3 hours due to free hours. and at 11:55 am Commisssionerate of food safety, Kerala conducted an awareness class on 'Food Safety among School Children'. The class was so informative for everyone and provided knowledge on lifestyle diseases, communicable diseases, macro and micronutrients needed for a healthy life, etc. The classes ended at 1:15pm and after that, we served lunch to the students.Today at 4:00pm we signed the register and returned home.

I handled one of my classes as it was free, cleared some of their doubts and just revised the content I taught them before. Due to rain class ended early and we returned home.
